How Bangalore food businesses run, and what that means for a POS

Bangalore packs an unusually wide range of formats into one city: quick-service counters feeding the office parks along the Outer Ring Road, specialty cafés, microbreweries, stand-up Darshini counters and a growing layer of delivery-only kitchens.

Three things in that mix decide what you need from billing software. Counters with long morning and lunch queues need a bill that closes in seconds. Venues that sell both food and drinks gain from kitchen tickets routed by station, so the bar and the kitchen each see only their own orders. And owners with two or three outlets across the city need one dashboard and a shared menu rather than separate logins for each location.

TasteIQ is built around exactly that: fast counter billing, KOT by station, and a multi-outlet dashboard with menu sync.

Which authority covers your Bangalore outlet

Since 2 September 2025 the BBMP has been replaced by five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). Municipal licences follow the premises, so start by finding which corporation your address falls under.

WhereWhoWhat to know
Inside Greater BengaluruOne of five city corporations: Bengaluru Central, North, South, East or WestIssues the municipal trade and health licences for premises in its limits.
Towns on the edge of the metro area, such as Anekal, Hoskote or DevanahalliTheir own local bodies, not the Bangalore corporationsA Bangalore corporation licence does not cover premises in these towns.
Labour registrationKarnataka Labour DepartmentRegistration for working hours and staff conditions. See the note below the table.
Food safetyFSSAI (FoSCoS portal)Registration or licence depends on turnover and activity. TasteIQ also offers FSSAI filing assistance.
GSTKarnataka, state code 29Register on the GST portal; every invoice carries your GSTIN.

The change is recent, so older guides and some forms still say BBMP. Sources differ on whether the GBA or the individual corporation handles a given trade licence file; check the current GBA notice and your corporation's office before paying any fee.

Jurisdiction follows the premises address, not the locality name, so confirm which body covers your plot before applying. Fire safety clearance and, if you serve alcohol, state excise approval are separate and depend on your building and what you sell. We do not quote fees or thresholds here because they change by notification.

State Shops & Establishments rules are being aligned with the national Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, which took effect on 21 November 2025, and states are handling the transition differently. Confirm which registration applies to your outlet.

KOT in Kannada for your kitchen

Many Bangalore kitchens work in Kannada while the front counter works in English. TasteIQ can print kitchen order tickets in Kannada, and because the setting is per outlet, one outlet can print Kannada tickets while another prints English.

Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Bengali, Odia and Urdu are available too, which helps in a city where cooks and counter staff often come from different states.

Headings, order types and common dish terms are translated. A dish name outside the built-in vocabulary prints exactly as you typed it, so write item names in the script your kitchen reads. The language is set per outlet in KOT settings.

Where to buy receipt and kitchen printers in Bangalore

TasteIQ works with standard receipt and kitchen printers, so you can buy locally rather than from us. SP Road is Bangalore's long-established IT and electronics wholesale market and the usual first stop for printers and accessories.

  • SP Road. IT and electronics wholesale; compare several dealers on the same lane.

Ask for a GST invoice and a warranty card, and print a sample bill and a sample KOT before you pay.

Hardware on demand, if you want it

TasteIQ runs on the phones, tablets, PCs and printers you already own, so hardware is optional. If you would rather not source it yourself, TasteIQ can arrange billing hardware such as receipt and kitchen printers on demand in India through its partner network.

Tell us your city and what you need on WhatsApp and we will say what is available.

Your format

Pick the setup that matches your Bangalore outlet

Cafés and bakeries

Neighbourhood cafés in places like Indiranagar, Koramangala and HSR run a short menu and a fast till.

Cloud kitchens

Delivery-first kitchens can record Swiggy and Zomato orders as their own order type, so reports show what each platform sends.

Restaurants and brewpubs

Table transfers, split bills and KOT by station, so the bar and the kitchen each get their own tickets.

What you get for ₹8,990/yr + GST per outlet

One plan, the same in every city: ₹8,990 + GST per outlet per year, after a 14-day free trial, no card. There is no setup fee and no AMC, and no hardware you are required to buy. It runs on Android and iOS phones and tablets, plus Windows and Mac, with standard receipt and kitchen printers.

  • GST-ready invoices with configurable tax rates
  • Kitchen order tickets (KOT) by station
  • Split bills, modifiers, discounts and table transfers
  • Inventory deduction with low-stock alerts
  • Daily sales, item and payment-mode reports
  • Multi-outlet dashboard with menu sync
  • Branded online ordering
  • AI menu setup from photos

How setup works

  1. Start the free trial. Create your outlet in the app. No card, no setup fee.
  2. Add your menu. Upload photos of your menu or type items in. AI reads items and prices; you confirm them.
  3. Connect printers and test. Pair the receipt and kitchen printers you already have and print a test bill and KOT.
  4. Go live. Train staff on real orders during the trial. Most outlets are billing in about 15 minutes.

Where TasteIQ may not be the right fit

If most of your orders arrive through Swiggy or Zomato and you depend on automatic order import, test that exact workflow in the free trial before you decide. TasteIQ records aggregator orders as their own order type so reports separate them from dine-in and takeaway.

TasteIQ is software-first and onboards remotely, over phone and WhatsApp. In India, billing hardware can be arranged on demand through its partner network. If you need one vendor to supply hardware and fit it on site as a single contract, ask what is available in your city before you decide.
