How Chandigarh food businesses run, and what that means for a POS
Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula are one continuous city to customers and three jurisdictions to the law: a Union Territory, Punjab and Haryana. An outlet group with a café in Sector 17, a restaurant in Mohali and a kitchen in Panchkula bills under three different GST state codes.
That makes the Tricity a natural fit for a multi-outlet setup: one menu to maintain, one dashboard to read and each outlet reported separately, instead of three disconnected systems or a spreadsheet to reconcile at month end.
The food mix leans on Punjabi staples, dhabas and a large student and office crowd, so the counter's job is volume: quick billing, clear kitchen tickets and item reports that show what to stock.
Which authority covers your Tricity outlet
Chandigarh is a Union Territory, Mohali is in Punjab and Panchkula is in Haryana, so each has its own civic body and its own labour department. The premises address decides which one applies.
| Where | Who | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh (Union Territory) | Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MC Chandigarh) | Secondary sources disagree on whether a separate premises trade licence is issued, so ask its licensing department which registration applies to your outlet. |
| Mohali (Punjab) | Municipal Corporation, Mohali (SAS Nagar) | A Punjab body; Punjab's GST state code 03 applies to Mohali outlets. |
| Panchkula (Haryana) | Municipal Corporation, Panchkula | A Haryana body that licenses specific trades, including eating houses; Haryana's GST state code 06 applies. |
| Labour registration | Labour departments of the Chandigarh Administration, Punjab and Haryana | Registration for working hours and staff conditions. See the note below the table. |
| Food safety | FSSAI (FoSCoS portal) | Registration or licence depends on turnover and activity. TasteIQ also offers FSSAI filing assistance. |
| GST | Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana, state code 04 / 03 / 06 | Register on the GST portal; every invoice carries your GSTIN. |
Chandigarh's sector-based addresses make it easy to assume one authority covers the whole Tricity. It does not: a licence issued in one of the three does not travel to the others.
Jurisdiction follows the premises address, not the locality name, so confirm which body covers your plot before applying. Fire safety clearance and, if you serve alcohol, state excise approval are separate and depend on your building and what you sell. We do not quote fees or thresholds here because they change by notification.
State Shops & Establishments rules are being aligned with the national Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, which took effect on 21 November 2025, and states are handling the transition differently. Confirm which registration applies to your outlet.

KOT in Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu
Most Tricity kitchens work in Punjabi or Hindi. TasteIQ prints kitchen order tickets in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and nine other languages, chosen per outlet, so a Mohali kitchen and a Sector 22 counter can each print what their staff reads.
Headings, order types and common dish terms are translated. A dish name outside the built-in vocabulary prints exactly as you typed it, so write item names in the script your kitchen reads. The language is set per outlet in KOT settings.
Hardware on demand, if you want it
TasteIQ runs on the phones, tablets, PCs and printers you already own, so hardware is optional. If you would rather not source it yourself, TasteIQ can arrange billing hardware such as receipt and kitchen printers on demand in India through its partner network.

Where TasteIQ may not be the right fit
If most of your orders arrive through Swiggy or Zomato and you depend on automatic order import, test that exact workflow in the free trial before you decide. TasteIQ records aggregator orders as their own order type so reports separate them from dine-in and takeaway.
TasteIQ is software-first and onboards remotely, over phone and WhatsApp. In India, billing hardware can be arranged on demand through its partner network. If you need one vendor to supply hardware and fit it on site as a single contract, ask what is available in your city before you decide.
