How Pune food businesses run, and what that means for a POS
Pune's food businesses cluster around colleges, IT campuses and old-city lanes: student cafés around FC Road, restaurants and bars in Koregaon Park, and a spread of quick-service and cloud-kitchen outlets serving office parks on the city's edges.
Footfall near campuses and IT parks follows term dates and office calendars, so the rhythm of a Pune outlet changes more across the year than a high-street restaurant's does. Daily sales and item-level reports let you see that pattern and buy stock to match it instead of guessing.
TasteIQ's inventory deduction and low-stock alerts are built for that: each bill reduces stock, and the item report shows what moved. It is included in the same per-outlet plan as billing and KOT.
Which authority covers your Pune outlet
Pune is not one licensing area. Municipal limits, Pimpri-Chinchwad and several cantonment boards each license premises inside their own boundaries, and a licence from one does not cover premises under another.
| Where | Who | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Pune city | Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) | Municipal trade and health licensing for premises inside PMC limits. |
| Pimpri-Chinchwad | Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) | A separate corporation with its own licensing office. |
| Camp area, including MG Road and East Street | Pune Cantonment Board | Runs its own trade licensing and has sealed eateries operating without it. A PMC licence does not cover cantonment premises. |
| Khadki and Dehu Road | Their own cantonment boards | Licensed separately from PMC and PCMC; confirm which board covers your address. |
| Labour registration | Maharashtra Labour Department | Reported in 2026: Maharashtra said a separate Shops & Establishments registration is not needed once you are registered under the OSH Code, while the Act's other provisions still apply. Confirm with the department. |
| Food safety | FSSAI (FoSCoS portal) | Registration or licence depends on turnover and activity. TasteIQ also offers FSSAI filing assistance. |
| GST | Maharashtra, state code 27 | Register on the GST portal; every invoice carries your GSTIN. |
Cantonment boards have acted against eateries trading without their licence, so do not assume older premises in Camp are covered by a municipal one.
Jurisdiction follows the premises address, not the locality name, so confirm which body covers your plot before applying. Fire safety clearance and, if you serve alcohol, state excise approval are separate and depend on your building and what you sell. We do not quote fees or thresholds here because they change by notification.
State Shops & Establishments rules are being aligned with the national Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, which took effect on 21 November 2025, and states are handling the transition differently. Confirm which registration applies to your outlet.

KOT in Marathi
Most Pune kitchens work in Marathi, with Hindi common in North Indian and Chinese kitchens. TasteIQ prints kitchen order tickets in Marathi, Hindi and ten other languages, chosen per outlet.
Headings, order types and common dish terms are translated. A dish name outside the built-in vocabulary prints exactly as you typed it, so write item names in the script your kitchen reads. The language is set per outlet in KOT settings.
Hardware on demand, if you want it
TasteIQ runs on the phones, tablets, PCs and printers you already own, so hardware is optional. If you would rather not source it yourself, TasteIQ can arrange billing hardware such as receipt and kitchen printers on demand in India through its partner network.
Tell us your city and what you need on WhatsApp and we will say what is available.

Where TasteIQ may not be the right fit
If most of your orders arrive through Swiggy or Zomato and you depend on automatic order import, test that exact workflow in the free trial before you decide. TasteIQ records aggregator orders as their own order type so reports separate them from dine-in and takeaway.
TasteIQ is software-first and onboards remotely, over phone and WhatsApp. In India, billing hardware can be arranged on demand through its partner network. If you need one vendor to supply hardware and fit it on site as a single contract, ask what is available in your city before you decide.
