How Jeddah food businesses run, and what that means for a POS
Jeddah is Saudi Arabia's Red Sea gateway, and its food trade reflects that: seafood restaurants along the Corniche, the old-town cafés and bakeries of Al-Balad, and a very large evening crowd of families and visitors. Seasonal peaks around Umrah and Hajj traffic and school holidays change the week's rhythm more than the month does.
Fresh fish is bought daily and does not keep, so stock that deducts as items are billed, with low-stock alerts, matters more here than a long feature list. It stops a kitchen selling a dish that sold out an hour ago.
Multi-branch groups also need one menu with per-branch numbers, because the Corniche and a residential neighbourhood behave very differently, and a single average hides both.
Who licenses a Jeddah restaurant
A Jeddah restaurant is licensed through the municipality's Balady platform, and the municipal licence is separate from the commercial registration and from tax onboarding.
| Where | Who | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal licence for the premises | Amanat Jeddah (Jeddah Municipality), through the Balady platform | Municipal licences are applied for through Balady, with premises requirements that depend on the activity and the site. |
| Your district's branch municipality | The branch municipality (baladiya) covering your address | Day-to-day inspections and some approvals are handled at district level, so ask which branch covers your address. |
| Commercial registration | Ministry of Commerce | The commercial registration is a separate step from the municipal licence. |
| VAT and e-invoicing | Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) | Administers VAT and the e-invoicing programme, including its Phase 2 integration waves. Read the national guide for what each phase requires. |
Check your own e-invoicing wave and any notices with ZATCA directly, because timing is set per taxpayer and announced in advance.
Municipal licences, commercial registration and e-invoicing onboarding are handled by different bodies, so confirm each with the issuing platform for your site before you commit to a lease. We do not quote fees or wave dates here because they change by notification.

Umrah seasons, school holidays and reading a peak week
A Jeddah restaurant's busiest weeks are not always the ones in a normal calendar: pilgrim traffic and school holidays move demand in blocks. Daily sales and item reports let you compare a peak week with a normal one, by day and by dish, so purchasing and rotas follow your own numbers.
For fresh seafood in particular, the useful number is not total sales but sell-through: how much of what was bought was sold. Item reports plus stock deduction give you that without a spreadsheet.

- Service charge as a percentage, set per outlet
- Billing currency set per outlet
- Kitchen order tickets (KOT) by station
- Split bills, modifiers, discounts and table transfers
- Inventory deduction with low-stock alerts

- Add your menu. Upload photos of your menu or type items in. AI reads items and prices; you confirm them.
- Connect printers and test. Pair the receipt and kitchen printers you already have and print a test bill and KOT.
- Go live. Train staff on real orders during the trial. Most outlets are billing in about 15 minutes.
Where TasteIQ may not be the right fit
We have not published a ZATCA Phase 2 (Fatoora) integration. Phase 2 is mandatory in waves, so if you are in or near a wave, ask us for the current status and do not choose a POS that cannot meet your wave date.
Receipts and kitchen tickets print in English or in the item names you enter; Arabic right-to-left layouts are not available yet, so check how your item names print in the free trial.
Orders from HungerStation, Jahez, Keeta and similar apps are entered under the delivery or other order type rather than imported automatically. If automatic import is essential, ask us for the current status and test the exact workflow in the free trial first.
Card payments, including mada, are taken on your own terminal or payment provider, and onboarding is remote, over phone and WhatsApp. TasteIQ's hardware partner network supplies hardware in India; elsewhere, plan to use devices and printers you already have or buy locally.
Restaurant POS in Jeddah: common questions
The platform is the same national one, Balady, but the application is routed to the municipality that covers your site, which in Jeddah is Amanat Jeddah and the branch municipality for your district. Requirements depend on the activity and premises, so check them on Balady for your own site.
