How Riyadh food businesses run, and what that means for a POS

Riyadh is a fast-growing, late-night city: dining peaks after the evening prayer, family sections and a strong delivery habit shape how a room is laid out, and events and seasons such as Riyadh Season move demand sharply. A POS has to bill quickly in a crowded room and keep delivery orders from swamping the counter.

Many Riyadh operators run several branches across districts that behave very differently, from the offices of the north to residential neighbourhoods and boulevard-style venues, which makes one menu and per-branch reporting a first requirement rather than an add-on.

Ramadan rearranges the whole day: trade moves to after sunset and late night, and the kitchen's prep schedule moves with it. Reports by daypart let you set that schedule from last year's numbers instead of from memory.

Who licenses a Riyadh restaurant

A Riyadh restaurant is licensed through the municipality's Balady platform, and the municipal licence is separate from the commercial registration and from tax onboarding.

WhereWhoWhat to know
Municipal licence for the premisesAmanat Al-Riyadh (Riyadh Municipality), through the Balady platformMunicipal licences are applied for through Balady, with premises requirements that depend on the activity and the site.
Your district's branch municipalityThe branch municipality (baladiya) covering your addressDay-to-day inspections and some approvals are handled at district level, so ask which branch covers your address.
Commercial registrationMinistry of CommerceThe commercial registration is a separate step from the municipal licence.
VAT and e-invoicingZakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA)Administers VAT and the e-invoicing programme, including its Phase 2 integration waves. Read the national guide for what each phase requires.

Check your own e-invoicing wave and any notices with ZATCA directly, because timing is set per taxpayer and announced in advance.

Municipal licences, commercial registration and e-invoicing onboarding are handled by different bodies, so confirm each with the issuing platform for your site before you commit to a lease. We do not quote fees or wave dates here because they change by notification.

Ramadan, Riyadh Season and late-night trading

A Riyadh restaurant's year has a few very different gears: ordinary weeks, Ramadan evenings built around iftar and the late meal, and event seasons that bring queues for weeks. A POS that can show last year's numbers for each gear lets you staff and buy against them.

Late-night trade also means a shift crosses midnight. Make sure the day boundary in your reports matches how you actually close, so a 1 AM bill belongs to the night it was served rather than to a new day.

Comparing with Foodics

A fair side-by-side with Foodics, the most widely used regional POS, including where it may suit you better.

What you get for $108/yr per outlet

One plan, the same in every city: $108 per outlet per year, after a 14-day free trial, no card. There is no setup fee and no AMC, and no hardware you are required to buy. It runs on Android and iOS phones and tablets, plus Windows and Mac, with standard receipt and kitchen printers.

  • VAT-ready invoices with configurable tax rates and tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive menu pricing
  • Service charge as a percentage, set per outlet
  • Billing currency set per outlet
  • Kitchen order tickets (KOT) by station
  • Split bills, modifiers, discounts and table transfers
  • Inventory deduction with low-stock alerts
  • Daily sales, item and payment-mode reports
  • Multi-outlet dashboard with menu sync
  • Branded online ordering

How setup works

  1. Start the free trial. Create your outlet in the app. No card, no setup fee.
  2. Add your menu. Upload photos of your menu or type items in. AI reads items and prices; you confirm them.
  3. Connect printers and test. Pair the receipt and kitchen printers you already have and print a test bill and KOT.
  4. Go live. Train staff on real orders during the trial. Most outlets are billing in about 15 minutes.

Where TasteIQ may not be the right fit

We have not published a ZATCA Phase 2 (Fatoora) integration. Phase 2 is mandatory in waves, so if you are in or near a wave, ask us for the current status and do not choose a POS that cannot meet your wave date.

Receipts and kitchen tickets print in English or in the item names you enter; Arabic right-to-left layouts are not available yet, so check how your item names print in the free trial.

Orders from HungerStation, Jahez, Keeta and similar apps are entered under the delivery or other order type rather than imported automatically. If automatic import is essential, ask us for the current status and test the exact workflow in the free trial first.

Card payments, including mada, are taken on your own terminal or payment provider, and onboarding is remote, over phone and WhatsApp. TasteIQ's hardware partner network supplies hardware in India; elsewhere, plan to use devices and printers you already have or buy locally.

FAQ

Restaurant POS in Riyadh: common questions

Yes, taxpayers in Saudi Arabia are subject to ZATCA's e-invoicing regulations. Phase 1 requires electronic generation of invoices, and Phase 2 requires integration with the Fatoora platform in waves announced by ZATCA. The national guide explains both phases and what to ask a vendor.
